@PolyWolf oh, Arch was just the boot stick, ok :D Yeah, Debian was exactly what I was thinking of - if it's updating during a reboot and you don't have the graphical splash screen disabled, it only shows a small text label telling you that it's updating, and that's easy to miss (especially on a somewhat high DPI screen). But it's not a very likely explanation, yeah
