@Arcticulate @thelinuxEXP I get the optimism, but I worry we’re building a house on a foundation someone else owns. If we hit 70% share entirely because of Proton, developers have even less incentive to write native code—they'll just target Windows and let the translation layer deal with the mess. It's a win for accessibility, sure, but a bit of a nightmare for long-term platform independence. We don't want to become just a 'Windows-compatible' kernel, do we?

@unknownuniverse @thelinuxEXP I know what you mean, but the mere thought of having 70 % of gamers on Linux means that Windows starts to become a lower prio for Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Rockstar Games and even more so for indie devs. You start to feel like you are looking at the wrong audience. The big game companies will respect and see the Linux platform as the primary platform and thus they start relying less on Direct X because the performance will be lower.
