This is true. It's made me wonder if the obstructionism shown by Sir Humphrey in Yes, Minister was actually a feature, not a bug.

@GerardThornley @djstreethawk @hypolite @mullvadnet Yes indeed. I see the British House of Lords like that in a lot of ways (massively flawed as it is), a level of sanity. I still think there should be a law stating that anyone who wants to be a politician is immediately barred from being one. Someone seriously suggested a way of selecting politicians similar to the way we select juries. Random people are chosen and made to do the job for a month or six months. I think there’s a lot to that.
