@Mimesatwork Applies to nations as well. Like you can say whatever, that we're a democracy and we care about this and that, while hollowing out the very institutions that make those things possible.
I feel it has to be either one:
A. They really are THAT manipulative and believe it's enough if it seems like you care. That no-one _really_ has any values, everything is just cynical theater.
B. They have a nigh-mythical belief in their brand and don't think any action or inaction could tarnish it.

@jarizleifr if the Trump presidency has taught me anything it's that incompetent assholes think everyone else is their kind of incompetent asshole as well. That everyone failed up with no skills or knowledge, so everything is actually fake and no one knows how to do anything except fake competence, and nothing is real.
