There's no way I could go back in time and survive in the 70s or 80s. It is too critically depressing. Just not having internet would ruin me entirely. But the rest of the technology sucked ass too. And the food.

@janusfox Honestly, I was born in the 70's, and grew up in the late 70's through early 90's. Before internet. And honestly I'm so glad for that. I got to experience things that no one is able to experience anymore. I got to do things no one could today, and probably never will again. I feel pretty bad for kids born after the 90's, they'll never for a second know what it's like to not be surveilled 100% of the time, or to be able to just relax and not be chronically online. And ones born more recently? They'll never know what it's like to not pay for everything as a subscription or to grow up in a place where they can ever really just shut everything off. They're so addicted to the internet and the the always online life that they'll cease to function if it stops working. They're so out of touch with the world outside the web that a lot of them can't even write well enough to use a pen and paper, and don't know what to do if their smartphones aren't in arm's reach. I like some of the things that modern tech has given, but I also miss a LOT that we had before every "smart" device became a surveillance device and you had to use your phone for everything. Was it all candy and rainbows? no. There were definitely issues with those times, but there are issues with modern times too. It's all a matter of picking your poisons it seems.

Funny, I was thinking a couple years ago that of anywhere in the past I'd want to wind up in, with some caveats, that'd be the 70s
