Yesterday I logged into Etsy for the first time in years. I saw that my favourite Ukrainian dressmakers, whom I knew and shopped with before the war (though I definitely indulged myself more freely afterwards, to support them) are still on there doing business. I’m glad. My linen dresses that I’ve picked up from various Ukrainian dressmakers serve me well; I’m wearing one of those almost every day. It’s almost a shame that they are such sturdy garments, because I don’t know when I will ever need to replace them, though I would love to shop again.

I should have anticipated that this post would lead to somebody asking for links. I did a whole deep dive in the replies, but I feel like I should have disclaimed that I am a weirdo who took the 2020 Great Lifestyle Reset as an opportunity to divest as much as I could from fast fashion, and switch over to wearing a mix of historical reproductions made by small businesses / solo artisans, and very niche Japanese street style subcultures 😅 I'm fascinated by pretty much any period of time and any place in the world that humans dress themselves, though I feel freer to explore the garments of my ancestors on both sides of my family; I lose interest in the mainstream fashion of Europe and its colonies pretty much at 1910-ish. I might not talk about it as much as other subjects, but I put the 'pretty dresses' among the interests in my bio for good reason 😅
