I do see similar language on the Mobian site: "It's recommended that you upgrade Android to the latest available version and install all system updates before installing Mobian, because Mobian uses FW files from Android partitions for enabling various peripherals (e.g. WIFI)."

@mpanhans Ok, so This was annoyingly complicated, but here goes: https://xdaforums.com/t/oneplus-6t-global-rom-ota-oxygen-os-repo-of-oxygen-os-builds.3865396/ This has a repo of all of the OTAs, so you can download the latest there. HOWEVER, that was annoying slow, so I looked up the filename of the latest one, and then I found it on Android file host (the md5 sum matched) Next, I loaded that zip file into the device's filesystem.
