She’s a leonine: In my universe, a small geographical difference in the Bering Strait prevented Homo sapiens to colonise America during Ice Age. A local species evolved into the leonines. They never developed agricultural civilisations like Aztecs or Incas, being nomad hunters. They were also far more resistant to diseases imported by Europeans.
