Excellent advice in real life too.
When my husband passed last summer, I was amazed by how many people told me without prompting - about their own unresolved loss and grief, sometimes decades old- in trying to offer condolences.
Had I not been caught up in my own trauma I’d have been empathetic, but it’s impossible to save someone else when you are drowning yourself. It was all I could do not to scream.
It stuck with me as a good lesson for myself for the future.

@Magooish I am so sorry, and augh. It’s so easy to see how people fall into that hole but seeing how it happens doesn’t make it any better.
