@Orb2069 @anthracite @cstross One of the drawbacks of having a hungry mind from childhood is that I know far too many things that I wish I didn't. Things like the Guinea Worm (the snake on the Rod of Asclepius), what is "draw and quartering" (which allowed me to identify a gutting hook), what is the basic task of triage, what is LD50, that sort of thing.

@Orb2069 @anthracite @cstross Not to mention what happened at the SL-1 nuclear accident, the dreaded Demon Core, the Apollo 1 cabin fire, what happened to the bodies of the crew in the Byford Dolphin accident, the sad fate of the Radium Girls, what screwflies do, and other things like that.

@nyrath @Orb2069 @anthracite @cstross Can relate. I was reading lots of things that probably were not age/maturity appropriate. Thankfully, most of it didn’t affect me until I had enough experience to actually understand it. Of course, there was the time I saw a PBS Documentary on the Holocaust; film from the discovery of the camps. When I was about 13. My mom saw me watching it and asked me if I was all right. I said, "No, but I think I need to see this and try to understand it."
