Thought of a "fun" rule addition to chess:
If at any point there is a situation where one (and only one) of your own pieces (with exception of your queen) threatens your king, you lose. This simulates the domestic politics.
If several pieces threaten the king at the same time, he's safe, since the would-be assassins watch each other.

@sol_hsa I like this idea. It opens a whole class of possible rules though. Turbulent Priest: If the piece is a Bishop, you may use your turn to remove it from the board. Errant Knight: If the piece is a Knight, you may take it using any of your own pieces Above your station: If the piece is a Pawn, you may take it using only the threatened King Close the Gate: After Castling, Rooks no longer trigger this rule. (This one's probably required anyway or you'd never castle)
