@deshipu Fairy doesn't mean 'pale' either. It's derived (via Old French) from Latin 'fāta', referring to the goddess of fate. Aos sí (modern Irish) definitely doesn't mean "settled people", since Irish is a living language and the speakers will happily tell you that it means fairies. The derivation of Old Irish 'áes síde' is just 'people of fairy mounds'. Proto-Celtic *sīdos had already lost the meaning of 'sit' and it was long gone by Irish.
