here are some recent tree facts ive learned. basswood which is quite soft and nice for carving comes from Tilia americana, native to eastern north America. and folks call it either a basswod tree or linden tree for some reason. it has more names too: https://roamingroots.blog/2025/08/16/tilia-americana/ the american chestnut is not gone yet but is considered at risk. some individuals survive outside the original range and people are working towards modifying the species to defend against the fungus that did it in. https://tacf.org/history-american-chestnut/
