@Di4na Great summary of the problem from the lone maintainer perspective, but I think it misses one point - corporations (and startups) hijacked the concept of open source, they just release their code and software for free, in the hope that it will end in someone's supply chain and indeed, they can become suppliers and have monetary benefits from it.
This was largely considered a good thing, until being a "supplier" became implied for all open source projects, including lone maintainers.

@Di4na Also, management from non-software background doesn't understand the difference. They were horrified to find out, that we just use "things from the internet, a lone guy wrote", and they can't pay support for a bunch of things. (Not because it solves problems, but because it pushes the blame elsewhere, should something fail.) Predictably, something that started as a noble initiative of donating to FOSS we use, ended up as paying yearly support fees to Microsoft and Canonical...
