@wwahammy what i am personally worried about is the possible repurposing of these “child-friendly measures” for more extreme conditions (say, requiring ID to access the Internet in times of crises/wars, where any any action online will immediately be tied to your identity - how could that go wrong, right?). That’s what happened with Russian regulators: first they started blocking sites distributing CSAM, drug sales, torrent trackers, etc.), developed the infrastructure and then… well, now you can’t use the internet properly without a solid VPN or byeDPI instruments. I’d like to think the rest of the world would learn from our mistakes… p.s. I’m sure other people have pointed this out already, but i still wanted to share my thoughts on the matter.

  • @lunacharskii I think it's a reasonable conclusion. I believe this will be exploited in certain US states to block kids access to information about LGBT people, abortion information and honest readings of history which acknowledge racism, sexism and other forms of oppression.
