@eliocamp not a proper scientific analysis, but my own anecdata (+I'm vegetarian too). I've found that leather shoes (and bags) are just so much more durable and repairable than any plastic-based alternatives. Recently got a pair fixed with new soles after those gave up after something like 8000+ km walked in it. All leather-alternatives I've ever had didn't make it that long and can't be fixed as it's the upper non-leather parts that break.

@gedankenstuecke Yeah. I've been warning the same leather belt for years and had a leather wallet that lasted for decades until I put it im the washer and got destroyed. That's why I'm wondering whether the long term effect of choosing a more durable (and repairable! You're right) item but potentially with a biggest initial cost for animal life balances out. Maybe quality is also an issue and I need to make sure that if I buy leather, it needs to be something really good.
