@ojala Yes, but the byproduct industry still increases revenue to the primary industry, so the effect is not zero, albeit indirect.

@eliocamp @ojala My limited understanding of life cycle analysis is that they are averaging quite a lot. I am afraid they will not help you here. They are still helpful to understand global trends but they can't reduce local complexity For example good pair of shoes, well maintain will probably minimize animal suffering, if "all think can be equal", but crappy leather shoes will definitely not (and they are the majority here).
