@andrew @surefire I was about to say I had a shebang line, because I always start my scripts off with those, but I went to check and make sure I wasn't lying...
Holy shit, I would've been lying!
And also, that fixed it. Thank you both so much!
(This script accreted in a weird way rather than my usual "sit down with the intent of writing a script", and I guess I just never wound up putting that in. Bad me.)

@kagan been there more than once, as I suspect @surefire has too…I always have to call ‘which bash’ to be sure 😅
