@kelidanovus They are working on V2H (vehicle to home) specs so your car can just be your house battery directly. They also call this "bidirectional charging." https://www.energysage.com/ev-charging/bidirectional-ev-charging/ Some cars like the kia ev9/f150 electric support this now, but its a compelling selling point that just adds on to the heap of why electric cars are better than petrol ones.

@liquidlamp Yeah my car has V2L but not V2H. The power came back on an hour earlier than the utility company predicted so I just finished cleaning up the cables. It was a nice little test even if the power didn’t stay off too terribly long this time around.

@liquidlamp @kelidanovus Honestly I feel like there ought to be a set date this has to be standard on every car sold. V2H, + solar panels + house batteries + heat pumps. All tech that already exists. Getting this to every house, now that would be something. (Says I who has no car and lives in an apartment a short walk from good transit)

@liquidlamp @kelidanovus Yes, there's lots to love about this. But... There's no future that includes mitigating the climate crisis, halting the sixth mass extinction and private motorised transport. A better transition to a sustainable future would be to radically expand public transport.

@liquidlamp @kelidanovus My best friend has an EV6. When the prolonged Kona rain storms hit a couple weeks ago, and the power went out at their house, they ran their home from the EV6 for about 8 hours until power was restored.
