@nicksherman @justvanrossum We used alpha and beta internally, some special customers might see a beta, and then release candidate and release for the final stages. Of course, this was before the software as a service continuous release process

@nicksherman @justvanrossum Related, there's also a lot of information in major/minor version numbers! Customers learn that, at least for some vendors, dot zero releases (eg 3.0) are effectively beta quality and should only be installed on test machines, waiting for the dot one release (eg 3.1) before deploying into production
