@babe I didn’t see the original interaction, but you might be surprised to discover there are quite a few car enthusiasts around here. Personally I grew up with cars and I love driving, but I haven’t actually owned a car for a very long time. And if I ever own one again it will be an EV. Classic cars are museum pieces - increasingly as technology leaves them behind - and it is good that some people are prepared to put in the effort to preserve them.

I don’t know if I’d put it quite that way. Technology leaves behind modern cars much, much more rapidly than old cars. Getting controller parts for a ten year old car depends heavily on the popularity of that car. Getting controller parts for a 45 year old car, like mine, is meaningless because the car has no controllers, aside from an analog glow plug controller, which I can diagnose and fix if it ever has trouble. My car is 100% obsolescence proof when it comes to anything related to technology. Newer cars simply aren’t.

Where I live, you pretty much need a vehicle. Mine is from 1997 and it was given to me. I would love an EV, but I'd really just be generating even more waste than carrying on.
