I am 34. The last time Boards of Canada released an album, I was 21. The teaser track is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Multiple people in the comments have mentioned people who they love, who are no longer alive, who would have loved to hear it. Their ghosts permeate the mood. Tape 05 doesn't sound like hope. Not to me. It sounds like the somber recognition of what was declared in Tomorrow's Harvest. It does sound like comfort, though. Comfort for times we knew were coming, that are undeniably here. Comfort that no one but the thousand-yard starers can truly provide, because it's not reframing anything. It's not numbing or escaping anything. It's heavy with grief for a world that is ending. For our inability to really stop the momentum that began with oil and steel. For those who aren't even trying to slow the impact, who aren't even trying to salvage just a piece of inertia, who aren't even trying to reduce just a little more harm, who would even prefer that it go faster, that the nukes fall. For how long it will take for anything resembling normal life on earth to ever return, as we enter a cold new age of consequence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bghDcbzfEU
