I tried boot images for Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian and Mint distros, and three different USB media writers: Fedora Media Writer, Rufus and BalenaEtcher. Balena repeatedly gave cryptic errors for images that the other writers handled with no problems. Rufus has a lot of options, and If I didn't get them right, the image would fail to boot with no error. The instructions on the Ubuntu site help, but not always. The Fedora Media Writer actually worked simply and well, even for the Ubuntu image.
