Also, almost made a foul of myself. Started writing a ticket to IT support which was a typical PEBKAC issue. Phew. What a day.

Adjacent. My typical approach to problems is "what I have fucked up this time". Because, usually, in a reasonably well maintained organisation, tools are mostly working. Of course, sometimes you can hit some edge case, which is not (yet?) supported. Or the disk has been written full. But otherwise things are mostly working. They might have some quirks, but are mostly reliable. But then you are joining the organisation. And you hit a problem. What I've fucked up? Investigation goes, colleagues are involved, finally it goes: it's not me, it's the tooling. Create a ticket. And again. And again. And again. Then you involve no colleagues, just do some rudimentary checks, and create the ticket. Then, after another few times just create the ticket. Have you noticed the shift? It's not "what I have fucked up this time" anymore. It's "what they have fucked up this time". And I would say it tells more about the org than about myself.
