@mitsuhiko normally to port a library licensed with a copyleft license to an implemetation with a more permissive license one would require that the developers work under "Chinese wall" conditions.

How would you do this with LLMs trained on the whole internet? Should the GPLd code be removed from the training data? I think lawyers will make a fortune on these questions. But in my opinion, this is ethically questionable.

@btel to me that is largely a separate academic discussion. That applies to all LLM output and little to using it for reimplementing anything in particular. This made a from scratch implementation that had nothing to do with the original.
