@samsteiner It’s less about broadcasting and more about building trust, relationships, and reputation over time. If your approach relies on reach, ads, and funnels, you’ll feel limited. If you lean into community, transparency, and genuine interaction, it can absolutely support your business. People do believe in small businesses. But on the Fediverse, support is earned socially, not optimized technically.

@samsteiner That's a very loaded re-framing of the question. I believe in small businesses; I am one. But I also believe that if they come here just to market themselves they should fuck off, and fuck off some more, and keep fucking off until they fuck off into traffic and hopefully the problem will solve itself. People who only want to sell something make everything worse. People who participate in the community first and occasionally say "hey, I have to keep the lights on"? That's fine. I care about them keeping the lights on because they contribute to the community instead of exploiting it.
