so many of the kid books that are geared to teach kids about radical politics suck hard. they're didactic, ageist, & filled with propaganda crud. and most kids are like wtaf.

  • like i will offer my services for FREE on how to do this without engaging in adult supremacy... like what i see often is here's a book about xyz liberation/abolition... and im gonna use all the pedagogical tools that make you feel oppressed while i tell you about it.

  • and an adjacent ugh is for all the adults writing about kids lib or being a rad parent/teacher/etc who are keeping the conversation about themselves, evoking adult supremacy constantly-- the adult gaze is a mofo.

  • @joyfulcarla there is no way in hell the intention was to teach kids about radical politics, given roald dahl was all kinds of oppressive and conservative, but "danny, champion of the world" definitely left an impression in a way you kind of only can if you don't look like you're trying

  • @joyfulcarla This is absolutely true. Books tend to suck when the author prioritizes lesson-learning over storytelling . But there are less direct lessons to be learned. Pippi Longstocking and the Moomins made me the anarchist I am today!
