btw about media proxying, the number one reason why Matrix is shit is that it forces you to copy the entire history + media of every chatrooms on your own server, media proxying is mandatory by design, I think if someone were to try and just link the original images directly we'd just get 404ed on fediverse it is optional it just works if you turn it off
