@c_merriweather @karlauerbach That sounds like the No True Scotsman fallacy to me. As far as I'm concerned, there are no true or false religions, and everything that evolved from that Jewish sect started by old Yeshua ben Yosef is absolutely part of Christianity. It doesn't matter whether they broke and bent the original teachings until they meant something entirely different. Evangelical Christians are still Christians, just like humans are still apes, and apes are still monkeys, and therefore all humans are monkeys. We're upright walking storytelling naked apes, religions are an evolutionary consequence of our storytelling, and I think applying some kind of cladistics to religious evolution, or to cultural evolution in general, in analogy to biological evolution, is the right thing to do. No religion is any more true or false than any other. Some are maladaptive and will eventually collapse, but then again, that also happens to biological species which evolve into a dead end and go extinct.
