@jefklak i'm kind of in the same boat as you, and i wrote a long essay on this exact topic. it's loosely about The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and all about nostalgia. you don't have to read it, but figured i'd post it because it aligns very closely with exactly what you're saying and, i suspect, feeling.

@f0rrest thank you for sharing that article with us, it's as you expected hitting the nail on the head. I guess I'm not that extreme yet but due to the way our mind reconstructs memories, retracing steps by replaying an old game the way you played it then (I went to great lengths to get a particular beige nineties AOpen PC case) is always a bit of a disappointment. With the play sessions on @dosgameclub I sometimes feel frustrated (e.g. evaluating Jazz now: it sucks vs. then: it was cool?)
