@shadowfals @blinry @dianea what device were you looking at? Depending on the phone the risks vary but generally it's not any more risky than flashing lineageOS or whatever. Some people like to mess with the partition table which can be pretty hairy
in general though the install instructions really need some better standardisation

@cas @shadowfals @blinry I have a few dozen used cell phones and all except modern Pixel appear to have a common hardware exploit being used by state contractors. I checked it out myself and it's like a full JTAG, do what you want with any chip soldered to the board. I'm only going to use what is vetted by people who's lives have been saved after getting rubber hosed by state agents that could not bypass that one custom hardened distribution
