Usted is still used in Spain, it's just much rarer. You might see "usted está aquí" on a sign, for example, but I've never personally heard it used in speech. I learned it would only be for talking to someone of a higher class, like a butler might refer to their employer that way or a similar scenario where you would be explicitly formal.
