@HighlandLawyer the levels of entitlement seen amongst some cyclists (not all by any means) is absolutely incredible. It seems that pinging the bell and/or shouting abuse are the default response. Very rarely do they apply the brakes, and only as the absolute last resort. The only explanation I can find is that for years they have been bullied by motor vehicles and now they bully the pedestrians. It is depressing how often the bullied become the bullies.

@HighlandLawyer regarding the “excuse me this is a cycle lane” syndrome, you are actually a lot safer crossing the road than a cycle lane. Car drivers will brake which is more than many cyclists do. Cyclists point to statistics suggesting cyclists are safer but that’s because crashes are simply not reported even when they’re quite serious. Anecdotally people will tell you about crashes and conflict with bicycles but when you ask, they will say they didn’t report it.

@peterbrown As a sometime serious cyclist, I have every sympathy with shouting abuse as a method of relieving the frustration of bad infrastructure design. Also with that experience plus certain other training, I am more than capable to bring an urban speed cyclist to a dead halt if necessary to prevent collision with a frailer pedestrian, all be it with a regretable degree of risk of injury to said cyclist if they are not already themself taking action to prevent such collision.
