@snookerarmchair @jk the most important improvements to Windows between let's say 7 and 11 are snapping tiled windows, the possibility of multiple virtual desktops, and a start menu that's (kinda) searchable. All of which Ubuntu had long beforehand, IIRC, and are power user functions that can confuse beginners.

@wilbr @jk well I suppose it was rather the window manager (Gnome, KDE) than Ubuntu but I take your point. Windows has never been the best-in-class for every aspect of the desktop experience, but it was very reliable for a certain number of things and has a good enough aesthetic.

@wilbr fwiw, the free, official Powertoys utility gave Windows virtual desktops in the '90s, among other enhancements.
