America is so starved for affordable EV options that the mere hope of a $20,000 EV drives hype cycles. #SlateAuto doesn't even have a factory yet, but people are putting down non-refundable deposits. Meanwhile, GM and Ford are scaling back their EV plans and discontinuing EVs like the Bolt. They deserve to have BYD eat their lunch.

(If decay and collapse of the US auto market actually led to investment in public transit, active transportation, and better city design, it could serve some purpose. But Detroit and the oil/gas industry are working overtime with the GOP to mak sure that doesn't happen.)
