@ColesStreetPothole I'm obviously grateful to have the car I've got, it was an amazing gift and I've come to really love it, but I do still miss the simplicity of the old banger in a lot of ways.
Never having to worry if it got dinged or vandalised because you'd hardly notice given the paint and bodywork from the previous owner. Parts and tyres cost fuck all and I could mostly fix it myself.

@babe Amen. My Tercel was stolen and involved in a hit and run. I recovered it myself two weeks later, riding my bike through various neighborhoods—found it with five parking tickets on it. Straightened the sheet metal myself, went to court to get all the violations dismissed (get that police report when your car goes missing, folks!), and kept it a few more years. It had less horsepower than my current motorcycle, but it sipped gas, and yeah, so easy to keep running.

@babe @ColesStreetPothole The most complicated electronics in my car is an analog glow plug controller. I will never get a new car. Things are so much simpler when we can just work on them.
