@melroy @clemens Tracking is so much more than cookies though. The banners are only there if the website does something you might not want it to do; blame the companies behind them instead. Sites can be completely bannerless if they want to.

    Indeed, it's a matter of malicious compliance more than bad lawmaking. Sites could also have banners that are not from some tracking third party. Though the ePrivacy regulation definitely could be improved, by enforcing that 'do not track' (and perhaps 'track me plenty') settings are followed without any further interaction. And they should start to bust the dark patterns so prevalent in this space.
