There's a lot of talk of online #ageverification systems these days. @pluralistic describes how doing so in a way that preserves #privacy is bullshit and technically impossible.

@pluralistic And imagine every single operator of a server instance here on Mastodon, some instances that are literally run out of someone's basement, having to use some kind of age verification system on pain of heavy fines.
