A few years ago, I kind of volunteered to be the cyber security compliance expert in my company. Probably one of the best things I've done as far as career development, and technical learning. Similarly I once volunteered to be the HDMI/HDCP compliance expert. And I actually hate rules. Violate them all the time. But I want to know what they are. Also, engineers need rules to constrain their solution space, it inspires creativity, efficiency, and opportunities for chaos.
