RE: https://mastodon.green/@gerrymcgovern/116374301141123788 Never buy a Kindle folks. The issue with e-ink is that the lifetime of the product is very long and format are pretty much done. So yeah, if they want to continue to sell their device they have to kill them.

@Aedius@lavraievie.social I've kept my paperwhite in airplane mode for over 10 years to make sure Amazon doesn't mess with it. It works great. I can still put new non-DRM ebooks and PDFs on it with Calibre. I bet there's lots of used ones for sale.

@Aedius@lavraievie.social Amazon also bans people at random with a single appeal attempt given, and if you do get banned, you lose access to all your books.......... I got banned from Amazon because i was trying to ship something to a friend that lives to a different country. They asked me to prove my identity, i did, they didn't like it and removed my ability to respond. So i made a new account and told to support what happened, and they ACTUALLY told me to respond to the noreply email... #amazon #kindle

@Aedius@lavraievie.social Even so, who wants to be using a 2012 Kindle? I have a 2024 for sale cheap, Fire Tablet HD 8. Better speed, better graphics, etc. I have friends who seem to believe that Amazon was cutting it off at 2022, not 2012. I had to send them the article.
