I get that there are security concerns, and thirteen years of service is ... decent by modern standards I guess, but Amazon telling owners of functional devices that they are no longer welcome to give them money still feels like wild work. I need to check how old my Kindle is (not that it matters since apparently there's a doom coming), but it's a lot cheaper to continue to use it and load books from other sources than buy a new one, and if I do replace it it probably won't be from Amazon's ecosystem.
