@theprivacydad@social.linux.pizza @leffe@social.linux.pizza How is it not secure to leave the bootloader unlocked? Just curious, because I haven't heard this before. And I don't think there is more risk of Murena allowing our data reported to Google than when you use the other method? Here, I'm not considering paid apps because it sounds like they use the same method as you? But I don't use paid apps so it's not relevant for me.

  • @bettina@mastodon.nu @leffe@social.linux.pizza ok, I see. The article I wrote is aimed at people who don't know how to or don't feel familiar with flashing a custom ROM. It's intended as a first step. About the bootloader, it is my understanding (I could be wrong, I should add!) that if you walk around with an unlocked phone, then someone who finds it and has the know-how could quite easily get into your phone (with your data on it).

@bettina @theprivacydad Things might be different now than they were two years ago, but I found the apps in /e/OS too limiting and I had been replacing a lot of them, e.g. to my own NextCloud, etc. I had one very important medical app that insisted on being installed by Play and using the real Play services. That app needed NFC also, which didn't work on the FP3 (something about long string support in LineageOS). I also hated the name, as it is impossible to search for. Even the hashtag eos floods my timeline with Canon cameras. It was originally called eelo, but they were forced to change it. There was a long outage on ecloud once, including email delivery, some time ago after I had already left. I wonder how many users they lost then. Their constant quibbles with GrapheneOS have been tiring.
