A while ago I ordered 1/4-28 screws to fix my chicken feeder. When they arrived, they wouldn't go through the bulkhead threaded holes I needed them to go through. A trip to the really good independent hardware store revealed that the screws I actually needed were 6mm screws. 1/4" is about 6.3mm, so when I used my one remaining screw on the sizing fixtures at home depot, the 6mm screw fit in the 1/4-28 tapped hole.
