"he or she" please, just say they even if you don't believe nonbinary people exist/deserve respect (which...we do, and we do...), you're making it harder on yourself by pretending that "they," as a pronoun, cannot possibly be used in the singular sense you do it all the time without even realizing it, and it's been recognized as a singular pronoun before public awareness of nonbinary identities started gaining traction istg, when people go out of their way to do this, it's the verbal equivalent of "climbing the wall to avoid the gay stairs"

    @silverface@cyberpunk.lol I was applying for a job once and the interviewer offered to send me a copy of a manual he was writing. At the bottom of every page he had written: (Note use of the singular, masculine, possessive pronoun is deemed to cover both the masculine and the feminine)The words "he", "him" and "his" appeared a grand total of five times in this 33 page document 🙄
