In my years as a privacy researcher so far, I've discovered that the masses are largely ignorant to the threats posed to freedom by the elimination of privacy. In most cases, they're simply not aware of any issue. Those are the ones we need to target with our efforts to inform, but we need to cultivate ways to inform them without sounding like schizos. Otherwise, they're going to write us off as crazies. In other cases, those ignorant masses know there's an issue but instead choose to bury their heads in the sand, sometimes even defending the invasion of privacy because of the tired "nothing to hide" excuse. This category falls into two subcategories: 1) Lazy 2) Scared The ones who are scared tell themselves that privacy is dead, that nothing can be done, and that they have nothing to hide anyways. The lazy ones simply don't want to take the time or handle the slight inconvenience of taking back their privacy so they also bury their heads in the sand in the same way. These people are the ones we can't really afford to waste our time with. It's fine to debate them but if they're clearly not budging on their views, we need to "dust off our sandals" and move on. Time is of the essence and there are still so many we can wake up.
