If you do receive a message you think is suspicious, report it as Spam and block the sender so that they cannot contact you again. AKA basic comms hygiene to preserve your peace. 5/

    Finally, to help you determine the fake and malicious from the genuine, we have signposts (https://support.signal.org/hc/en-us/articles/360007459591-Signal-Profiles-and-Message-Requests#message_requests) in the application that can aid you in identifying fakers and phishing attempts. We also have tools like Registration Lock to help protect against account takeovers. 6/

  • @Mer__edith On this point: if you waste their time you are punching where it hurts the most, but are still putting yourself at risk. Maybe you think "I'll tell them the code but off by one" but now if you make a mistake, you are done. Just hang up. It's the better option
