Folks would rather have their mental model rebuilt by fashtech slopmachines than think about why they shouldn't be doing that

@ozzelot when covid had first hit, after a while soccer competitions restarted, but without supporters in the stadiums. it was fascinating to watch on TV, the silence broken by the shouts of the players and the coach. I really loved it, because it was so interesting, and because it fit the times so well. we were living through our first major pandemic! things were weird! and it was therapeutic to watch the silent games, seeing that we were all together in this. but the vast majority of people didn't like it at all, and before long, most broadcasts had added fake crowd noises. I hated it SO MUCH. I wanted the real thing! and I couldn't stand the idea that the players on the pitch were immersed in a completely different atmosphere than I was looking at on the TV. (I suppose this is the hyper-reality baudrillard was talking about) I learned then that most people will choose comfort over reality. :blobCat_oh_no:
