In the 1980s Jordan Belfort starts scamming everyone selling shit stocks, and hawks some private MBS. The SEC comes after him. Echoed later Michael Burry realises the MBS market is going to fail and stars a short. Our narrator, played by Ryan Gosling, realises the whole system is corrupt. Tired of his corporate finance job with Goodman Sachs where he's specialised in risk assessments, he develops a split personality and starts an underground fight club, that same personality masquerading as a disillusioned trader who wants to live off the land. He gets jacked to the tits when he closes his deal with Mark Baum, but it's not enough and can't replace being abandoned by his father. Cut to Jeremy Irons who makes the call to offload toxic assets before his bank fails. Micheal Burry catches wind but can do nothing. As the global economy crashes the Tyler Durden personality blows up the credit agencies and watches them all fall to zero. The movie ends with Kevin Spacey digging a hole.
