@davidlohner You will have more independence here in what you see of others and what you yourselves post. You can be a bit more listened to when it comes to shaping what the Fediverse becomes. Given how many institutions around the world are showing ethical problems and signs of other strains, it's exciting to possibly build new ways of doing things, including #SciComm
Secondarily, I'd echo what others say about using a couple hashtags, I'd emphasize how important it is to learn how to create

@davidlohner alt text & image description for accessibility. In fact, if you do this, it makes people MORE likely to boost your post. They also have the nice option here of using alt text/image description even for videos. All part of making communication, including science communication, more accessible. Which increases your educational reach as well as helps you (I have to really think about my botanical and chemistry terms when describing some images, for instance).
