I like the square look too, but yeah, nothing wrong with the tension gather either!
I'm curious how you feel about the knitted as a tube and then closed flat across the top look. It's a bit like a knitted Byzantine hat...and if worn sideways gives you a pussy hat 😁

@deirdrebeth I like the pussy hat look for pussy hats (preferably with embroidered nose and whiskers) but in general I like as rounded and smooth a crown as I can get. :)
